Kids. What makes them beautiful so often makes them vulnerable and around water, their curiosity can lead to tragedy. Drowning is the number one cause of death among children age 1 to 4.
And according to the CDC, drowning disproportionately affects the black community. Black children aged 5–19 years are 5.5 times more likely than white children to drown in swimming pools. And between the ages of 11–12 years, they’re 10 times more likely.
This is unacceptable.
Consulting with community leaders and partnering with local artist, Cbabi Bayoc, Kuhl/Swaine and Swim On set out to empower youth to not only take care of themselves in the water but also look after their friends. The result: an emotional and empowering grassroots transit campaign across the City of St. Louis that will save lives.
